Administration and dosage.

The usual recommended dose is 1-2 pills per day. The duration of the treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection.

Precautions and warnings.

Please be aware that Levaquin may cause pain and inflammation of tendons, especially if you are an elder person or you are undergoing a steroid treatment (for example cortisone).

In case if you have persistent and/or bloody severe diarrhea during the treatment or after it, you should see a doctor immediately as the reason for this might be a severe inflammation of the intestine.

During the treatment with Generic Levaquin it is recommended to stay away from the sun light, since the sensitivity to it might increase.

  4. itching
  5. appetite loss, vomiting
  6. stomach pain, indigestion

Drug interaction.

Your treating doctor should be informed regarding all the drugs, herbals and over the counter products you are taking. Levaquin mainly interacts with:

  1. sucralfate or drugs which contain iron salts, magnesium or aluminium. These drugs could impede the absorption of levofloxacin and they must not be taken concomitantly. The sucralfate should be administered 2 hours after Levaquin and the drugs containing iron, magnesium and aluminium- 2 hours before Levaquin
  2. NSAIDs, like ibuprofen or naproxen
  3. theophylline- the risk of having convulsions increases significantly
  4. probenecide and cimetidine- they will reduce the kidney capacity to eliminate levofloxacin
  5. cyclosporine- levofloxacin may extend the effect of cyclosporine
  6. blood thinners, like warfarin. Patients could be bleeding more often and additional blood tests should be made on a regular basis for monitoring the level of blood coagulation.

As in reference to food, Levaquin is not influenced by the meal time. It is not advisable to take Generic Levaquin with orange juice, as it may reduce the plasmatic values of quinolones.

Missed dose.

If you forget to take one of the doses, you can administer it once you remember about it, unless it’s time for the next dose. The most important is not to take a double dose to compensate for the omitted one.

Overdose.

If by mistake you took one additional pill nothing severe will happen. Nonetheless, if you took several additional pills you should see your doctor. You could have convulsions, be confused and dizzy.
