Product Description

Generic Macrobid is a broad spectrum antibiotic. It forms bacteriostatic and bactericidal concentrations in urine for the majority of strains causing urinary infections. The active ingredient is nitrofurantoin monohydrate.

Common use.

Generic Macrobid is used for the treatment of acute urinary infections such as: bladder bacteriuria, cystitis, pyelonephritis and for the long lasting prophylaxis of recurrent urinary infections.

Administration and dosage.

The most correct dosage and duration of treatment can be established only by a healthcare professional.

In acute infections the usually recommended dose for adults is ½-1 pill (50mg or 100mg taken 4 times per day during the meals) for 1-2 weeks. For prophylaxis: ½-1 pill every evening for a long period of time.

Children over 1 year of age: in acute infections the suitable dose is calculated according to the formula 4-5mg/kg taken 4 times a day. In cases of chronic infections: 2,5mg/kg.

Precautions and warnings.

Pregnant women should be extremely careful with this antibiotic, especially in the last trimester. As well, newborn babies and infants could develop hemolysis or their teeth could become yellowish.

If users have diabetes and electrolyte imbalance they must be monitored closely by a doctor.

Additionally, during the treatment with Generic Macrobid it is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol.

Users should be aware that nitrofurantoin may give the urine an yellow-brown colour.
