Product Description

Generic Maxaquin belongs to a group of antibiotics named fluoroquinolones. The active substance is Lomefloxacin.

Common use.

Generic Maxaquin is used for the treatment of the following types of infections:

  1. infections of the urinary tract, like cystitis caused by Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus saprophyticus.
  2. lower respiratory tract, acute bronchitis or aggravation of the chronic bornchitis, caused by Haemophilus influenzaeor Moraxella catarrhalis.

In some cases Generic Maxaquin is indicated as a prevention of the infection drug during postoperative periods.

Administration and dosage.

The usual recommended dose for adults and elder patients with normal renal function is 400mg of lomefloxacin taken in one single intake. The duration of treatment may vary between 3-14 days, depending on the type of the infection and its severity.

The Generic Maxaquin pills should be taken with a full glass of water. The meal time is irrelevant.

Precautions and warnings.

Patients should avoid exposure to sun and to artificial UV light during the treatment with Generic Maxaquin.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: during these periods it is not recommended to administer Maxaquin, unless the benefits justify the risks.

Driving and machinery use: normally, Generic Maxaquin does not have an impact on these capacities. Nevertheless, if you feel bad after the administration of the drug, you should not drive or use any kind of machineries.

Contraindications.

In case if you suffer from any of the health conditions below, this should hinder the administration of Maxaquin:

  1. pregnancy and breastfeeding
  2. children under 12 years old
  3. kidney and liver disorders
  4. hypersensitivity to lomefloxacin or to another component of the drug
  5. allergy to other antibiotics

Side effects.

As in the case of all the drugs, the administration of Generic Maxaquin may involve some adverse reactions, even though not every user experiences them. From the most frequently met we can mention the following ones:

  1. headaches
  2. nausea
  3. photosensitivity
  4. dizziness
  5. diarrhea
  6. abdominal pain
  7. tinnitus
  8. increased sweating
  9. dry mouth

Drug interaction.

It is very important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking, have recently taken or intend to take in the nearest future. Please mention even topical drugs and herbal products. In this way you will be able to avoid health risks resulting from drug interaction. Generic Maxaquin will interact with the following drugs:

  1. antacids and sucralfate. These drugs should be taken 4 hours before Generic Maxaquin as they will reduce its absorption.
  2. It will slow the process of eliminating the lomefloxacin through kidney.
  3. blood thinners or oral anticoagulants, for example warfarin. Maxaquin could intensify the effects of anticoagulants.
  4. other antibiotics
  5. supplements containing iron and zinc- they should be taken 2 hours before or after Generic Maxaquin, otherwise the effect of the antibiotic will be weakened.

Missed dose.

It is recommended to administer the medications at the same hour every day. Anyhow, if you forget to take your pills, you can take them within a maximum of 2 hours after the initially scheduled time. If you realized the omission later, skip this single dose and continue as prescribed.

Do not take double doses in order to compensate for the missed ones.

Overdose.

Taking more Generic Maxaquin pills than prescribed may result in serious health issues. You could have nausea, skin eruptions and/or be dizzy. Just go to the nearest hospital or to your doctor for medical help.
