Product Description

Generic Noroxin contains Norfloxacin. This antibiotic belongs to a group of medications named quinolones. They act by destroying bacteria causing infections in human body.

Common use.

Noroxin is used for the treatment of the following infections:

  1. mild acute cistitis in women under 65 years old
  2. other urinary infections including infections of the prostate
  3. gonococcal urethritis in men (inflammation of the urethra of infectious etiology)
  4. endocervical gonococcal infection in women

Administration and dosage.

The correct dosage and duration of treatment can be established only by a healthcare professional.

The usual recommended dose for adults is 800mg of Noroxin per day, divided into 2 intakes for a period of 3-5 days.

The pills should not be administered with milk or dairy products.

Precautions and warnings.

During the treatment with Generic Noroxin patients should avoid exposure to the sun because this medication may increase the sensibility of the skin to sun light.

Rarely, during the treatment with this drug, users could experience affections of the tendon manifested through pain and edema. Sometimes these affections may even evoluate to tendon rupture.

Patients with miastenia gravis or those having had previously convulsions should be monitored closely by a doctor whilst undergoing Noroxin.

Driving and machinery use: Generic Noroxin does not have an impact on these capacities.


It is not advisable to use Generic Noroxin in the conditions below:

  1. hypersensitivity to norfloxacin or to any other component
  2. allergy to any other quinolone drug
  3. children- in growing phases
  4. if you have ever suffered from tendinopathy after having used norfloxacin or any other medications from the same group
  5. if you are breastfeeding

Side effects.

The possible adverse reaction which could be experienced by users are:

  1. stomach burn
  2. headache
  3. dizziness
  4. insomnia
  5. buzzing in the ears (tinnitus)
  6. skin eruptions
  7. myalgia
  8. swelling of the face, tongue and throat
  9. respiratory difficulties

These 2 last Generic Noroxin side effects could also be a severe allergic reaction to the drug. You should see a doctor immediately if you experience them.

Drug interaction.

Generic Noroxin may potentiate or weaken the effect of other medications or favour the appearance of side effects when taking concomitantly with other drugs. The below mentioned medications should be taken 1 hour prior to Generic Noroxin or 2 hours after, otherwise they will reduce the absorption of norfloxacin:

  1. products which contain iron or zinc
  2. antacids- drugs used for indigestion or stomach burn
  3. drugs used for the treatment of stomach ulcer or gastritis
  4. didanosine- used in HIV/AIDS infections
  5. drugs for the treatment of gout, for example probenecid
  6. blood thinners

It is recommended to have an empty stomach for a better absorption of the drug.

Missed dose.

If you forget to take your pills you can take them once you realize the omission. In case if it’s close time for the next dose, just take one of them.


If you took more pills than prescribed you shoould go to the nearest hospital or to your treating doctor. The treatment in such cases is a symptomatic one. An ECG should be performed due to the possibility of prolonging the QT interval.
