Product Description

Generic Omnicef is an antibiotic from the group of 3rd generation cephalosporines. The active ingredient is Cefdinir.

Common use.

Generic Omnicef’s mechanism of action consists in inhibiting the synthesis of the cellular wall.

Generic Omnicef is used to treat various infections:

  1. pneumonia in adults
  2. exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae
  3. acute sinusitis
  4. uncomplicated skin and soft tissues infections, caused by Staphylococcus aureus and pyogenes
  5. otitis media (especially in children from 6 months to 12 years of age) caused by Haemophilus influenzae

Administration and dosage.

You should always take medications as prescribed by your doctor.

The usual recommended dose for adults and children over 12 years old:

  1. in pneumonia and uncomplicated skin and soft tissues infections: 300mg at every 12 hours during 10 days
  2. in exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and sinusitis: 300mg at every 12 hours or 600mg at each 24 hours for a period of 10 days.

The Generic Omnicef pills must be taken entirely with a glass of water. The meal time has no incidence over the drug’s action.

The dosage and duration of the treatment will be determined in accordance with the etiology of the infection and its severity.

Precautions and warnings.

Cefdinir is excreted mainly through kidney. This is why patients with renal dysfunction should be monitored closely by a doctor during the treatment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Generic Omnicef must not be taken in these periods, unless your doctor has evaluated the potential benefits and risks and prescribed you this medication.

Driving and machinery use: Generic Omnicef does not have a negative impact on these activities. Only if after administration you feel bad, then you should not perform such activities.

Contraindications.

If any of the conditions below make reference to you, it is recommended not to administer Omnicef:

  1. hypersensitivity to cefdinir or to some other ingredient of the medication
  2. allergy to any other cephalosporines or other antibiotics
  3. renal and liver dysfunction- only if authorized and monitored by a doctor
  4. pregnancy and breastfeeding- only if authorized and monitored by a doctor

Side effects.

Generic Omnicef is usually well tolerated. Nevertheless, everybody is different and some of the users could experience such side effects as:

  1. diarrhea, abdominal pain
  2. vaginal candidiasis
  3. headache, dizziness
  4. skin eruptions, itching
  5. nausea and vomiting
  6. vaginitis

If you experience any unusual symptom please inform your doctor.

Drug interaction.

It is mandatory to let your doctor know about all the medications and herbal products you are administering for being able to prevent any health hazards resulting from drug interaction.

If you are undergoing any of these, the absorption of Generic Omnicef could be slowed:

  1. antacids containing aluminium and magnesium
  2. probenecide
  3. other antibiotics
  4. oral anticoagulants or blood thinners

Missed dose.

If you forgot to take one of your doses, you can take it once you remember about it. In case if it’s time for the next scheduled intake, just skip the omitted one and continue as initially prescribed.

Overdose.

Taking higher doses of any kind of medications may involve severe consequences. In cases of overdose it is recommended to perform hemodialysis and gastric lavage. Consequently, you should see a doctor at once or go to the nearest hospital.
