Product Description

Generic Tegopen is a penicillin antibiotic. The active substance is Cloxacillin. The mechanism of action consists in preventing bacteria to grow.

Common use.

It is a medication used for the treatment of infections caused by staphylococcus sensible to penicinillase and cloxacillin such as:

  1. skin and soft tissues infections
    1. dermatitis
    2. furunculosis
    3. antrax
    4. mastitis
  2. respiratory pathways infections, like pneumonia
  3. ENT infections: throat and sinus irritation and congestion
  4. urinary infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus
  5. biliary tract infection

Administration and dosage.

The correct dosage and duration of treatment will be established by your physician after having consulted you.

The usual recommended doses are:

Adults and children over 20kg: 1-4 pills each 6 hours depending on the infection’s severity.

Children under 20kg: 0,050-0,100 g/kg divided into 4 intakes taken at each 6 hours.

In severe infections the duration of treatment should be of at least 10 days.

It is preferable to take the pills on an empty stomach.

Precautions and warnings.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women must not take any kind of drugs without doctor’s permission. Antibiotics are prescribed in these periods only if potential benefits for the mother exceed the potential risk for the baby.

Driving and machinery use: you should not perform such activities if after the administration of Generic Tegopen you feel nauseous or dizzy.

If any of the conditions below make reference to you, this should serve as an impediment in administering Generic Tegopen:

  1. allergy to penicillin, cephalosporines
  2. hypersensitivity to any other component of the drug
  3. new borns
  4. kidney and hepatic disorders
  5. any specific health conditions not allowing the use of cloxacillin

Side effects.

As all the medications, Generic Tegopen’s administration may involve some side effects, even though not every user experiences them. From the most common adverse reactions we can enumerate the following ones:

  1. nausea, vomiting
  2. flatulence, diarrhea
  3. skin eruptions or other allergic reactions
  4. the appearance of mycoses

Drug interaction.

It is mandatory to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking, have recently taken or intend to take in the nearest future. In this way you will be able to avoid any health hazards resulting from drug interaction. Generic Tegopen interacts with:

  1. other antibiotics- they should not be taken together as they could influence one’s another action
  2. blood thinners, like warfarin
  3. allopurinol- their concomitant use increases the risks of skin eruptions
  4. oral contraceptives- their effect might be weakened

Missed dose.

In order to avoid missed doses, it is a very good habit to administer the medications at the same hour every day. Anyhow, if you forget to take your pills, you can take them as soon as you realize the omission unless it’s close time for the next scheduled dose.

Do not take double doses in order to compensate the skipped ones.

Taking more pills than prescribed may result in serious health issues. You could have nausea, skin eruptions and/or be dizzy. Just go to the nearest hospital or to your doctor for medical help.
