Generic Tinidazole belongs to an antibacterial and antiparasitic category of drugs. The active substance is Tinidazole. This medication is mainly intended for adults, elder people and children over 12 years old.

Common use.

Tinidazole is used for the treatment of the following infections:

  1. urogenital trichomoniasis both in men and women
  2. unspecific vaginitis
  3. giardiasis
  4. intestinal and hepatic amoebiasis
  5. eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection associated with duodenum ulcer
  6. acute ulcerative gingivitis
  7. infections with anaerobic germs

Additionally, Generic Tinidazole can be used for the prophylaxis of post-operative infections, mainly in ginecological, gastro-intestinal and colon surgery.

Administration and dosage.

The usual recommended dose of Generic Tinidazole depends on the etiology of the infection.

Urogenital trichomoniasis, giardiasis and acute ulcerative gingivitis

Adults and elder people: a single dose of 2g (4 pills).

Teenagers over 12 years old: 50-75mg tinidazole/kg in 1 intake.

In cases when Trichomonas vaginalis is confirmed, both parteners should be treated.

Unspecific vaginitis

Adults and elder people: 1 intake of 2g of tinidazole (4 pills).

Intestinal amoebiasis

Adults and elder people: 2g of tinidazole (4 pills) per day, in 1 single intake for 2-3 days.

Teenagers over 12 years old: 50-75mg tinidazole/kg in 1 intake for 3 days.

The meal time is not relevant when undergoing Tinidazole.

For a correct dosage and duration of treatment patients should consult a healthcare professional.

Precautions and warnings.

In case if it happens that during the treatment with Tinidazole you notice neurological disorders, the treatment should be immediately stopped.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: it is strictly forbidden to administer Tinidazole in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Whereas in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, it could be administered only if the potential benefits for the mother exceed the potential risks for the baby. Tinidazole is excreted in mother’s milk and it’s present in milk even 72 hours after being taken.

Driving and machinery use: Tinidazole has a moderate influence on the capacity of driving and using any kind of machinery. If you feel bad, such activities should not be performed.

Contraindications.

Generic Tinidazole must not be administered in the conditions below:

  1. you have allergy to tinidazole or to any other component of this drug (corn starch, magnesium stearate)
  2. if you have or had blood disorders
  3. if you suffer from neurological organic illnesses, including epilepsy
  4. if you are pregnant, especially in the 1st trimester
  5. children under 12 years old

Side effects.

These are some of the most common side effects which could be experienced while using Trinidazole:

  1. headache, dizzines
  2. peripheric neuropathy
  3. vertigo
  4. nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
  5. appetite loss
  6. skin eruptions

Drug interaction.

Tinidazole interacts mainly with:

  1. The ingestion of alcohol should be avoided during the treatment because users could experience hyperemia, abdominal pain, vomiting and tachycardia. The alcohol must be avoided up to 72 hours after stopping the treatment with Tinidazole.
  2. blood thinners- the asccociation of tinidazole with oral anticoagulants increases the risk of bleeding

Missed dose.

It is not advisable to skip doses. In case if you forget to take your Generic Tinidazole pills, you can take them as soon as you remember about it. Do not take double doses to make up for the omitted ones.

Overdose.

You should not take more Generic Tinidazole pills than prescribed by your doctor. However, if it happened, just seek medical help immediately.
