Product Description

Generic Xalatan are ophthalmic drops used in patients suffering from open-angle glaucoma- a disease which increases the pressure inside eyes. Generic Xalatan belongs to a group named prostaglandins. The active substance is Latanoprost.

Common use.

The main principle of Xalatan action consists in increasing natural liquid elimination out of the eye. Thus, the pressure inside the eyes decreases. It may also be used to treat increased pressure and glaucoma in children and newborns.

Administration and dosage.

Generic Xalatan should always be used as your doctor prescribed you to. It must be administered only inside your eyes. The usual dose for adults (including elder people) and children is 1 drop inside the affected eye(s). The most appropriate moment to administer these drops is in the evening. You must not use Xalatan more than once a day since the efficacity of the treatment will lower.

Precautions and warnings.

You should be aware that Generic Xalatan may darken your lashes and the skin around the eyelids.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding period: taking any kind of medicine during these periods is strictly forbidden without consulting a doctor first. Xalatan may pass into mother’s milk and harm your child. Thus, you should not use it during breastfeeding period.

Driving and machinery use: Like any eye drops, you may have a blurred vision immediately after having administered them. Consequently, you should not drive until your vision gets cleared.

If you wear lenses: At first you should take off your lenses and then administer the eye drops. After having waited for about 15 minutes you may put your lenses back.

If one of the following applies to you, then you should not use Xalatan, unless your doctor allowed you to:

  1.   you or your child are allergic to Latanoprost or any other drug’s components
  2.   you or your child have had surgery on eyes, including cataract surgery
  3.   you or your child have eye pain, inflammations or blurred vision
  4.   you or your child have dry eyes
  5.   you or your child wear lenses.
  6.   you or your child have had a viral infection of the eye

Side effects.

Like any medication, Generic Xalatan may cause side effects, even though not everybody may experience them.

Very frequently met side effects (more than 1 person out of 10 may be affected): the colour of the eye darkens, reddening of the eyes, burn sensations, itching, longer and darker lashes.

Frequent side effects (1 person out of 10): punctiform erruptions on the cornea, inflammation of the eyelids, eye pain.

Less frequent side effects: conjunctivitis, blurred vision, dry eyes, skin rash temporary episodes, cornea inflammation.

Drug interaction.

In case if you use Generic Xalatan together with some other eye drops, you should wait for not less than 5 minutes between the administration of these medications. Anyhow, you should tell your doctor about all the medications you are under, even those sold over the counter, in order to avoid possible risks and harm yourself.

Missed dose.

In case if you forget to use Xalatan, you should administer one single drop as soon as you remember about it and then continue with your usual treatment. Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
