Yasmin is a birth control medication. Each pill contains a small quantity of two women hormones: drospirenone and ethynil estradiol. Such medications are called oral combined contraceptives.

Common use.

Besides its main use Yasmin is also efficient for the following health conditions:

  1. improving symptoms like flatulence, edema or weight gain
  2. water retention
  3. treating acne
  4. reduce skin and hair seborrhea

Administration and dosage.

You should always take the medications according to your prescription label. The pack contains 21 pills with medication and 7 pills without medication.

Yasmin could be taken with a small quantity of water regardless the meal time.

Precautions and warnings.

Please do take into account that Yasmin does not protect you from the sexually transmitted diseases. For this purpose you should use some additional contraceptive methods such as: condoms or spermicide.

Yasmin should not be taken by women who do not have menstruation.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: During these periods you should not take any kind of medication without consulting your doctor first.

Contraindications.

You should not take Yasmin in the situations below:

  1. you have or had a blood clot in a blood vessel of legs (deep vein thrombosis)
  2. pulmonary embolism
  3. dysfunctions having an impact on coagulation, for example protein C and S deficiency
  4. if you ever had a heart attack or stroke
  5. diabetes
  6. high blood pressure
  7. hepatic impairment
  8. vaginal bleeding of uncertain origin
  9. allergy to some carbohydrates

Side effects.

The side effects mentioned below were the most frequently highlighted while taking Yasmin:

  1. breast pain and sensitivity
  2. migraine
  3. whitish vaginal leaking
  4. menstrual disorders, bleeding between menstruations

From the more rare ones:

  1. nausea, vomiting
  2. diarrhea
  3. low blood pressure
  4. high blood presure
  5. hair loss
  6. water retention
  7. weight changes
  8. vaginal infections

Drug interaction.

It is mandatory to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including herbal products and medication purchased over the counter. Additionally, it is also important to tell your dentist or all the other doctors who must prescribe you some medication that you are taking Yasmin.

Missed dose.

If you are late with the dose with less than 12 hours the efficacity of Yasmin is still maintained.

If you are late with more than 12 hours, the efficacity of the pills is significantly reduced so please consider using some additional birth control methods.

Overdose.

If you took more pills than you should have please seek urgent medical care. You could have nausea, headache and vaginal bleeding.
