Product Description

The active ingredient of Generic Zithromax is Azithromycin. It is an antibiotic belonging to the group of macrolides.

Common use.

The most frequent infections treated by this antibiotic are as follow:

  1. superior respiratory tract: sinusitis, otitis, bacterial pharyngitis
  2. inferior respiratory tract: acute bronchitis and acute aggravation of chronic bronchitis, interstitial and alveolar pneumonia
  3. skin infections: migratorial erythema (the first phase of Lyme disease), erysipelas (large patches on the skin, mainly of the face and legs), impetigo (pustules with yellow sores)
  4. sexual transmitted diseases: inflammation of the urethra (urethritis) or of the cervix (cervicitis)
  5. digestive infections caused by Helicobacter Pylori.

Administration and dosage.

You should always take medications as prescribed by your doctor. The pills should be administered once a day, 1 or 2 hours after the meal. For the skin and respiratory tract infections the recommended dose is 500 mg during 3 days. For the migratorial erythema: 1g the first day, and by 500 mg each of the following days of the treatment (usually up to 5 days). For the sexual transmitted diseases the dose is of 1g taken only once. And for digestive infections- 1g per day.

Precautions and warnings.

You should be careful when taking Generic Zithromax if:

  1. you have liver failure
  2. you have heart problems
  3. you have kidney failure

If you experience diarrhea episodes during or after the treatment you should immediately inform your doctor.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding please inform your doctor before taking any kind of medication.

Contraindications:

Do not take Generic Zithromax if:

  1. you are allergic to azithromycin, erythromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic
  2. you take alkaloids from rye at the same time
  3. you experience swelling of the eyelids, face, lips or throat

Side effects.

Like all the drugs, Generic Zithromax may cause side effects. They can be very frequent, frequent and very rare.

The most frequent side effects are: diarrhea, nausea and flatulence.

Frequents side effects are:

  1. appetite loss
  2. dizziness, headache, temporary loss of hearing
  3. vision troubles
  4. vomiting and dyspepsia
  5. joint pain, fatigue
  6. decreased number of lymphocites in blood

From the rare side effects we can highlight the following ones: candidiasis (infection of the mouth and vagina), a reduction in the number of white cells also called leucopenia, insomnia, Stevens-Johnson syndrom, thoracic pain, sensitivity to sun light, urticaria and anxiety.

Drug interaction.

You should always inform your doctor about the medications you are taking, even those sold over the counter. Azithromycin may interact with the following drugs:

  1. ergot derivatives (such as ergotamine used to treat migraines)
  2. cyclosporines (drugs used on patients with transplants)
  3. digoxin (used in the treatment of cardiac arrythmias
  4. antacid medications (used in the treatment of digestive diseases)
  5. coumarin anticoagulants (such as warfarin- used to prevent blood clots)
  6. sildenafil (used in erectile dysfunctions)

Missed dose.

If you forget to take one dose of Zithromax, you should take it as soon as you remember and the next dose should be administered after 24 hours.

Overdose.

The Generic Zithromax side effects caused by a higher dose than prescribed were similar to those noticed while taking regular doses. Macrolide overdose symptoms are: reversible loss hearing, sever symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. In such cases it is recommended to take some activated coal pills and consult your doctor immediately or to go the nearest hospital.
